The Genevois Confederacy
One of numerous United Nations successor states after the collapse of human spaceflight in roughly 3500 AD. Has since expanded to cover fifteen planets across a wide swathe of human-colonized space. The capitol of the Confederacy is located on the planet of
Geneva, which retains some measure of sovereignty as an autonomous republic under the Confederacy's oversight, as opposed to the newly-reconstituted
United Nations of Sol, which more closely resemble the US's statehood system as opposed to the EU's model.
the Genevois calendar is roughly three hundred and ninety-five days long, making dates significantly different from old-earth counterparts. However, like most human-descended colonies, Geneva keeps track of dates in both the old calendar and the local.
Geneva achieved Starflight August 16, 4519 AD. The date each planet was admitted to the confederacy is given in this calendar. it is currently 4687 AD.
Confederacy Worlds
- Geneva (4519), the Capitol and one of the first successor states to regain interstellar capability.
- Olympus (4522), the site of the primary naval shipyards and command centers.
- California (4620), a planet that serves as the Primay technology development center for the Confederacy.
- Santa Francesca (4680), a hispanic-descended colony recently added to the Confederacy.
- Changoum, (4572) one of the two Kafkan colonies to officially request membership and be accepted.
- Nayung, (4574) sister colony to Changoum.
- Yokohama (4535), a major shipyard and research center, as well as major food producer.
- Jiuan (4683), a fairly technologically primitive planet recently admitted.
- Isht (4520), one of the oldest member planets.
- Nirhual (4680), the only planet in the confederacy to be settled after the confederacy was established, with the exception of the Kafkan worlds. Site of a joint Kafkan-human colony.
- Abzu (4677), a relatively recent addition, one of the few planets to achieve interstellar travel before making contact with the Confederacy.
- Sekhar's World (4677)
- New Chola (4598)
- San Marino (4602)
- Iron (4626), so named for the color of its seas.
- San Armando, while not yet a member of the confederacy, is still an important planet. it is the only world in Noh Space to be successfully defended, and thus the only world where the Noh Holocaust has been thwarted so far. It is believed San Armando will apply for membership in the next twenty years, pending worldwide referendum.
Confederacy Navy
The Genevois Navy is one of the most advanced and well-equipped naval forces in the explored galaxy, possessing ships years in advance of the more numerous
UNS Spacy. In many respects its ships correspond in role to earthbound naval vessels, however the Genevois navy has also adopted a primarily missile-based naval system, designed to combat the Noh fighter-based navy, which relies on the Noh's superior reflexes and 3d space visualization abilities to grant an advantage against human naval forces.
There are roughly two thousand ships, most of which are destroyers in one of four classes, missile destroyers in one of five classes, frigates in one of seven, or cruisers in one of four.
current estimates for Noh strength place their space-borne forces at roughly seven thousand ships of varying tonnage.
The UNS has between three and four thousand vessels, but with a significantly smaller number of classes.
Dreadnoughts
Dreadnoughts form the spine of the Genevois navy. While the typical Confederacy ship is smaller and less armed than its UNS (which focuses on low-cost, high reliability designs that are easy to produce en masse) or Noh counterpart, the emphasis placed on survivability by the Genevois result in highly advanced and well-defended ships that are capable of holding their own in combat. Dreadnoughts are truly massive ships, measuring between three and five kilometers long (the new Marathon-class at the lower end of this, at 3.5 km long, while the much more massive (and obsolete) Peacemakers topped out at 4.2 km).
- Napoleon-Class Dreadnoughts, heavily armed and armored warships mounting spinal KEWs designed to deliver tungsten slugs at significant fractions of the speed of light, often possessing a limited number of ship-to-ship missiles as well as a standard compliment of AEGIS defense systems. There are roughly twenty Napoleon-Class ships in existence, often acting as the flagships of major navy fleets. Dreadnoughts are specifically designed to combat Noh MotherHolme-class ships, which also use spinal KEWs for long-range relativistic strikes. Napoleon-Class Dreadnoughts are expected to be replaced in the next ten to fifteen years by the newer Marathon-class. Two have been destroyed in combat since the first ships were laid down.
- GCD Napoleon, lead ship of her class.
- GCD Pride of Geneva
- GCD Yokohama, destroyed over San Armando in combat, 4687 AD
- GCD Abzu
- GCD Inanna
- GCD Ereshkigal
- GCD Mesopotamia
- GCD Invincible
- GCD Permanance
- GCD Hellion
- GCD Santa Fe
- GCD Samsa, destroyed over Nirgual during First Noh Retaliation.
- Peacemaker-Class Dreadnoughts are older vessels which have been mostly replaced by the newer Napoleon marque. There are less than ten of these vessels currently in operation, down from an estimated Seventy-three at the height of their deployment. Peacemaker class ships are 4.2 Km long (longer in some configurations) and displace 800,000,000 Tonnes - 800 megatonnes.
- Marathon-Class Dreadnoughts are the replacement for both the Peacemaker and Napoleon Dreadnoughts. There are Eighty-Six of these ships scheduled for construction. Unlike the Dreadnoughts that this ship is replacing, the Marathon and its sister ships are relatively small and posses much greater thrust-to-mass ratios, as well as newly advanced superconductors forming the basis of its three KEWs which allow it to sustain firing for much longer than older Dreadnoughts. Only two ships are currently in service. Marathon-class Dreadnoughts are 3.5 Km long, and displace about 500,000,000 tonnes - 500 megatonnes.
- GCD Marathon, lead ship of her class.
- GCD-X Thermopylae, used as a test bed for future upgrades to be disseminated throughout the Genevois fleet.
- GCD Shin Yokohama, next ship planned for construction.
Carriers / Drone Hosts
Despite the focus on missiles (and to a lesser degree large-scale KEWs as used on large Noh vessels), the Genevois navy still maintains a robust fleet of fighters and carriers. many of these fighters are unmanned, thus leading to the the Drone Host designation as opposed to carrier. The naval designation is GCC for Carriers, and GCH for Drone Hosts. Despite their role, carriers are usually much smaller than dreadnoughts, with Daedalus-class carriers topping out at 2 km and Prometheus-class at 1.5 km
- Daedalus-class Carrier. There are twelve carriers in operation. Each one is capable of fielding about ninety assorted fighters.
- Icarus-class Drone Host, the sister class to the Daedalus. The Drone Hosts can field between seventy and ninety drones, depending on mission type and configuration. the Icarus-class are technically simply refitted Daedalus-class.
- Prometheus-class Carrier. These are much smaller, carrying about forty fighters.
- Epimethius-class Drone Host. Like the Icarus the Epimethius-class is a refit of its sister class of carrier, carrying thirty drones.
Destroyers
Destroyers are large ships fielded by the Genevois to serve as powerful combat craft. Individually they are ineffective against Noh capitol ships, however they are usually deployed as support craft to defend Missile Destroyers against frigates and cruisers. They are designated as GCK.
- Lazardo-class Destroyers. The Lazardo-class is the oldest ship marque currently serving vessel in the Genevois fleet. It is a workhorse design that has proven to be very flexible and adaptable, with refitted Lazardo-class destroyers serving as Hesse-class missile destroyers.
- Pellaeon-class Destroyers.
- Yakashima-class Destroyers.
- Garfin-class Destroyers.
Missile Destroyers
- an artist's conception of a Murasaki-class Missile Destroyer
Missile Destroyers are the most numerous large class of ship, a result of the focus on missile-delivery tactics by Genevois planners. Their designation is GCM. They are very effective against fighter groups, however their defenses have trouble handling heavy fire from capitol ships, rendering these ships ineffective in straight off combat. Despite the lack of a KEW in all classes except the GCX testbeds for the Romei and Gustavus Adolphus classes, missiles have proven effective against warships with inadequate point defenses. Despite serving only as the ship of the line, these are not small ships: the average missile destroyer is between 800 and 1100 meters long, and displaces about 80-100,000,000 tonnes.
- Sapporo-class, a proposed design being tested as a potential replacement for the shinkurou class. only two vessels of this designation exist.
- GCM-X Sapporo
- GCM-X Oshima, rechristened the Gustavus Adolphus after the retirement of the original ship carrying this name.
- Romei-class, the newest class of vessel, currently designated to replace the Gustavus Adolphus-class.
- GCM Romei
- GCM-X Outlaw
- GCM Ranger
- GCM Gore
- GCM Tenacious
- Gustavus Adolphus-class The most famous Genevois class of ship, largely due to the exploits of its lead ship, under the command of Kadeshi Ikaya. There are more than two hundred of these vessels in operation today.
- GCM-X Gustavus Adolphus, the lead ship of her line. Usually referred to as the Gustav. Retired after the defense of San Armando, where the ship was almost wrecked.
- GCM Hindenburg
- GCM Erich
- GCM Henry J. Gloval
- GCM Johann Tserclaes
- GCM Albrecht von Wallenstein
- GCM Patton
- GCM Arthur Wellesly
- Shinkurou-class, a competing ship-of-the-line designed by the colony of Yokohama. There is a friendly rivalry between the Gustavus Adolphus-class crews and the crew assigned to the more advanced (but less numerous) Shinkurou class.
- Murasaki-class
- Hesse-class
Cruisers
Cruisers are most often used for reconnaissance and fast transport. They are often larger than destroyers, but possess fewer armaments and weaker defenses. Cruisers are also divided into highly specialized roles, such as ECW or tenders for smaller ships. Cruiser designations refer to their mission role, and include GCT, GCE, and GCL.
Frigates
Frigates serve as anti-fighter screens to help defend larger ships. They are the smallest class of ship fielded by the Genois to possess military-grade
Hauser drives, capable of much greater acceleration than conventional models, able to slip into FTL in fewer than five seconds. Civilian ships often require two to three days of continuous acceleration before achieving FTL speeds, and most commercial Hauser drives are not even capable of breaking the light barrier.
In contested systems, Frigates often also serve as scouts and skirmishers. They are much faster than the average human ship, and their crew are usually modified correspondingly to withstand greater accelerations and stresses. They are designated GCF.
- Normandy-class Frigates
- Brittany-class Frigates.
- Orange-class Frigates.
- Monaco-class Frigates.
- Liechtenstein-class Frigates.
- Timor-class Frigates.
- Sussex-class Frigates.
Patrol Boats
Often carried by carriers and dreadnoughts, patrol boats often have picket duties. When coordinating planetary bombardments or extreme long-range attacks they will sometimes be used to piggy-back the projectiles until they pass the point of no return, using the fields generated by their Hauser drive to make minor course corrections. Designated GCP.
Fighters
There are three major classes of space fighter used in the Genevois combat.
Bomber
Bombers have an anti-frigate and anti-cruiser role, serving to soften up an enemy fleet before capital ships begin to move in. designated with a B.
Heavy Fighter
Heavy Fighters are designed to intercept enemy fighters and neutralize defenders. They are almost always manned, though newer classes of unmanned interceptors are currently being field-tested. Thus far they have not proven to be as effective as manned ships. designated with an H.
Defender
Defenders are designed to intercept missiles and other unmanned, high-velocity objects capable of maneuvering. They are often unmanned, and make up the bulk of the Drones carried by Drone Hosts. designated with an S.
Missiles
Most missile classes are named somewhat humorously: e.g. the Beseecher* class and the Intimidator class.
*contrary to popular rumors, these missiles do
not fire a coded audio transmission to their targets containing the sound-byte "I beseech you in the bowels of Christ, think it possible you might be mistaken" seconds before impact.
