One of the greatest curiosities about Annai is the sheer number of sentient species on its surface. There is simply no logical explanation for it. It is one of the most intriguing mysteries, and also one of the most prominent reasons for the enduring strife that has scarred the world for thousands of years. It is hardly surprising that Annai has experienced so much strife, however; with the violence that erupts regularly between members of the same species, is it any wonder that all of the species are territorial, xenophobic, and more than willing to go to war with their monstrous neighbors for living space, religious needs, or even just sheer perverseness?

Sentient Species on Annai can be divided into two main camps: the Humaniform species, and the Inhuman species.

Inhuman Species

• Maenki
• Dragons
• Feeding Ones

There are many species on Annai with no clear analogue in earth life. Many of these may be the descendants of experiments in genetic manipulation by older societies; others are simply the creations of gods or arbitrarily powerful being for specific tasks or purposes, or even simply for the sake of creation. These non sentient creatures are usually collectively referred to as "monsters."
